I have owned many mazdas. My first car 10 years ago was a 91 ford escort gt with the mazda 1.8 bp motor( same as the 90-94 protege and also came in rwd form in miata) after that i fell in love with mazda. Since i have owned a 91 protege 1.8 sohc, 91 miata 1.6, and currently a 03 protege 5. the protege 5 is not the quickest out of those but it is a practical family car and very reliable and handles great. ive lso got my mom hooked on mazda, she had a 99 milenia and now drives a 08 mazda 3. zoom zoom for life!

I LOVE MY MAZDA. It's a 1996 Protege LX and it is absolutley wonderful. The little car had gone through so much and its such a great car. It's pushing 160,000 miles but it runs great.

The only problem with owning a P-5, would be the tires.

Let me tell you what I found... you can upgrade to 205/50-16 size tires. You have a much better selection. This size works fine on the the stock alloy 16 " rims. I got some killer BF Goodrich G-Force super-sports from tire rack that are so much better than the dunlops that were on it when I bought it. Yep...I know they were factory issue in 03... I bought this car in October 08 with 27,000 on the clock, so it's almost new.

ok i currently own a 95 Mazda Protege LX. with a Z5 1.5L motor in it. OMG im in love with it. i bought it back in july and it runs excellent. its got almost 150,000 miles on it. i had no problems with the car. in fact the only problem i had with it is the tires which was an easy fix. i use to have a Ford Thunderbird. that thing was a peice of crap. every paycheck i got, i had to spend it on that car cuz something went wrong in it. so i destroyed it and got my Mazda. i know Mazda is owned by Ford but Ford uses Mazda's engines. like they use a Protege motor in an Escort. but that doesn't make it a mazda.

I bought my 1995 Mazda Protege new and now it has 310,000 miles. My mechanic says I am on borrowed time so I have to plan for the day. It's doing fine now, but where will I find another car that is so reliable? Before this car I had a Corolla that went up to 179,000 miles but the windows were always smeary. And I don't want to drive around in a box. Maybe I should fly to South America and drive one north!

I now own a 2002 Protegé LX with 115 000Km on it and it still goes like a charm. no major failures (only changed the EGR valve last summer, under warranty...saved 380$:P) brakes are strong, with the right tires, even if they,re a little pain in the ass to get...it sticks to the road firmly and does not roll in the wind. it feels very strong to drive, not like those cheap american imitations.... owned a 1996 Sunfire "brand new" 'till I changed in 2002...it kept breaking down over times...engine, computer, brakes, brake lines, gaskets....the body color was rust with a little purple here and there.... what a piece of crap ! costed a lot to keep it running so I had to change it...the looks helped me choose it back then...in 2002, the civic was too "square" and the Corolla was too expensive to insure.... and americans... they were ase ugly as expensive.... since then, I NEVER had remorses about my little Mazda. Wish I could get my hand on an MP3 at that time...oh well... i'll wait till it dies to think about buying another car.

I have had 3 Proteges. My first a 1992 DX (I bought new) had 135,000 and was running strong when it was totaled in an accident. My second was a 94 DX (I bought new), the ex got it in the divorce, it was running strong at 155,000 when it was totaled in an accident. My current car is a 98 Protege LX ( I bought it new 10 years ago) and it is going strong at 133,000. I have never owned any car that was as practical and reliable as my Protege's. Best damn cars I have ever had.
