Mazda announced that it’s line up of 2008 CX-9 vehicles will have the option of docking your Gameboy Advance. That’s right, a system roughly four generations old (in gaming terms) can now hook up to the DVD dockable entertainment system available in the 2008 CX-9. Why such a throwback to an early-2000′s version of the Nintendo hand held gaming device? Mazda claims it is based on sales – the Gameboy Advance has the highest amount of sales on record for any hand held game system. If you still don’t see the logic, fear not; MazdaPedia feels this is only the first step to a Mazda and Nintendo bond, which might bring a Nintendo DS dock to your RX-8 or Wii hook-ups to the Mazda6.

Resulting data can create a “near accident map” available to drivers via on-board navigation, allowing them to probe alternative routes and avoid messy road situations. This information will be passed on to riders with voice prompts, so you will not even have to take your eyes off the road! An example of how this can help avoid close calls on the highway is as followed: A car passing around a semi moves into your lane. The on-board navigation is immediately alerted to the impatient driver, telling you a collision may be imminent. This allows the vehicle operator to avoid other car quickly – at the same time it also alerts the passing vehicle to slide back behind the truck, avoiding any accident.

A talking car capable of avoiding accidents, communicating with computers, other cars and drivers…sounds Familiar, no?
